Who can challenge Lewis Hamilton?

The question is not new in recent F1 seasons: Who can challenge Lewis Hamilton, the driver who is aiming for the 6th world championship in history?

After 14 races this season, the challengers begin to surface.

Max Verstappen

At the end of this month, Verstappen officially turned 22 years old. But this is already the 5th season he is present in F1 races, and just need to play 5 more races, this rider will officially reach the milestone 100th Grand Prix of his career. The Dutchman’s mark was shown at his first appearance on the Toro Rosso team in 2015. Shortly after, he moved to Red Bull and won his first win in the Spanish race.

Since then, Verstappen has got 6 other stage wins, including 2 from this season. He was one of the most impressive riders in the first half of the season, along with Hamilton. After two unsatisfactory races in Belgium and Italy, Verstappen is still considered a bright candidate for the Singapore race this weekend.

Charles Leclerc

Leclerc impressed with two victories in the Belgian and Italy stages after F1 underwent a mid-season break. He was discovered talent by Ferrari 3 years ago. The career of the driver from Monaco is marked by the championship in smaller races such as GP3 or F2, before he came to Sauber racing team last year.

Leclerc on the other hand, had a much better impression than team-mate Sebastian Vettel. He is full of opportunities for the eighth time to overtake German riders in the class achievements, as well as to increase the current 13-point gap on the F1 race rankings.

These are undoubtedly the two drivers with the most potential to challenge Hamilton’s championship, not just because of their position in the rankings. Playing on top teams like Ferrari or Red Bull will increase the chances of winning the stage for Verstappen or Leclerc, thanks to their ability to compete on the most optimal motor vehicles.

Of course, this does not mean the hope of a full closure for potential drivers in less prestigious and financially viable teams. Faces like Alex Albon, Lando Norris or George Russell still have the right to dream of one day becoming one of the top F1 riders.

Vettel: Easy to be angry because of losing so much

If Formula 1 (F1) needs a scenario to enliven a season dominated by Mercedes, they certainly have it at the Canadian Grand Prix. The penalty for Vettel in Canada GP is a testimony.

Each F1 supercar with a price of millions of USD is the crystallization of the peak of technology, science and technology. To see firsthand the speed machines, fans have to spend a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, but this opportunity is coming to international sports and speed lovers completely for free!

Lewis Hamilton won his fifth victory in seven stages this year and Mercedes’ winning series continued to last after Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, who seemed to win, was fined 5 seconds for dangerous driving. The one who laughed in Vettel’s pain was none other than Hamilton, and therefore, the 78th victory in the career of the British racer, helping him get closer to the sixth world title, became one of the most controversial thing.

1

The moment that caused a social media storm and provoked the sulk from Vettel after the race – he initially refused to go to the podium before being comforted by officials, and then leave the interview. midway – happened in round 48.

Vettel led the race from the start, after winning a pole on Saturday, his first time in 17 races. However, Hamilton is not moderate. After entering the pit-stop, the Mercedes started chasing the German driver, shortening Vettel’s 5-second lead to less than a second in 10 laps.

In the other nine laps, Hamilton continued to exert pressure by keeping the distance within 1 second with the Ferrari. And then Vettel made a mistake.

The German racer in the 3/4 bend is too fast, the whole car gets on the grass and enters the track. When Vettel did so, he lost control and drove the car to the side of the track. It is worth mentioning that Vettel almost knocked Hamilton’s head off when the British driver was cornering properly, before being pressed by Vettel to the divider.

Canadian developments at the Grand Prix will definitely prolong the debate. However, the key point is that this is not the first time Vettel is in a situation of being under the pressure of the race. This is even a problem for the German driver in the last two years or more, when he and Ferrari have sought a hopeless solution to prevent Hamilton and Mercedes.

Last year, Vettel made five important driving mistakes, the errors slowly took away his chances of competing for the championship that he could at least maintain to the final stages, and could have won if those errors do not occur.

This year, after 7 stages, Vettel made 2 mistakes. An error in the race with Hamilton in Bahrain, and now in Montreal. People can agree with the penalty or not, but everything will be fine if Vettel makes no mistakes that lead to controversy.

This year is not last year. However, while Mercedes has won all seven stages, in fact, three of them are likely to belong to Ferrari – if Charles Leclerc’s engine does not encounter problems in the final rounds in Bahrain, Leclerc did not meet ears. in qualifying in Azerbaijan and Vettel are not penalized in Canada.

Even if Ferrari could improve the car to challenge Mercedes in every race, Vettel could not expect to beat an opponent of the same level Hamilton had achieved in the past three years if he could not find a way limit those mistakes.

Mercedes remained unrivaled in the new season opening stage

Mercedes started the 2019 season with a one-to-two championship at the Australian Grand Prix, although the first-place finisher was not the current world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Not Lewis Hamilton or Sebastian Vettel, Australia’s Formula1 season championship racer, Valtteri Bottas. The Finnish rider surpassed Hamilton from the start after his teammate started slowly in pole position. Even, Bottas can get bonus points thanks to the fastest race.

Leaving the team mate over led Hamilton to be left quite faraway because he had to focus on keeping Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to take second place. Of course, when Verstappen passed in 3rd place, This is clearly a sad day for Vettel and Ferrari racing team.

1

“Why are we so slow?” Vettel asked his racing team after two-thirds of the race. “At this point, we don’t know”, someone answered. Rather, that’s all Ferrari’s story at the Australian Grand Prix.

Because before the 2019 season kicked off, many people thought Mercedes and Ferrari would not be inferior in speed. Instead, Bottas and Hamilton were overwhelming from the beginning, while Vettel pointed to fourth and Charles Leclerc to 5th. Particularly for Bottas, the Finnish driver even got a bonus point for reaching time.

It seems that after 2018 it is difficult not to win any stage compared to 11 podium wins and Hamilton and Bottas world championships are very determined this year. Of course, by winning in Australia, he showed his ambition to compete with his teammates and deserved to be a candidate after his impressive performance at the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit.

Similarly, the Ferrari racing team, where Vettel can feel the pressure from teammate Leclerc. The Monaco driver made some minor mistakes in Ferrari’s debut, but, thanks to a late stop, he had newer tires of Vettel inthe following rounds. Leclerc quickly closed the gap of 12 seconds between them before following Vettel in the final round.
