If F1 fans will have to wait for another 2 weeks until the teams announce the new season, then at MotoGP, all have started for 2019.
This year Ducati is the first name offering with a completely new look and hope to be able to win for the first time in a decade.
From now until the start of the season at Losail Racecourse, Qatar, there are many milestones associated with the pre-season events of MotoGP. In addition to the tests, four factory teams and the new racing team appear this year, SIC Racing in the highest form will also hold its own new models. Ducati are the starters, followed by the Honda champions, then the SIC, Yamaha at the beginning of February and finally the KTM.
Ducati held a solemn ceremony at the Philip Morris R&D Cube building in the city of Neuchatel, Switzerland. They are not a name too strange in the racing car when they appeared on popular McLaren cars in the 1990s (with Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna) and then Ferrari in the glorious years with Michael Schumacher.
Philip Morris did not just sponsor F1, but they were the ones who helped the teams at MotoGP or IndyCar win the championship. Therefore, the brand “Mission Winnow”was born and appeared in the Ferrari SF70-H since the Japanese marathon GP October 2018.
And Ducati, another Italian team, will follow the “war horse” to get the main sponsor from the 2019 season. Present at the premiere was new driver Danilo Petrucci and Andrea Dovizioso, CEO Claudio Domenicali and head of the Gigi Dall’lgna racing team. The Desmosedici this year still has the main red color but is highlighted more boldly.
This is the first time since 2009 Ducati received funding from a tobacco brand. Audi Sports will also appear for the first time on the tires of Desmosedici GP19. In addition, we can see familiar names like Lenovo, Shell or Riello.
Ducati entered the next season with the task of finding the first racer since Casey Stoner was crowned in 2007. Dovizioso has had the most recent two successful seasons, but still lacks a bit to be able to beat Marc Marquez. With the emergence of’new wind’ called Petrucci, Ducati will certainly be able to make a difference with direct competitors, especially when Jorge Lorenzo will race alongside Marquez at Honda.
Dovi’s 2019 goal will still be to compete for the personal championship and he continues to team up with racing engineer Alberto Giribuola. Meanwhile Petrucci will bring engineer Daniele Romagnoli from Pramac Racing to Ducati to continue working together, meaning that Lorenzo’s former technical team (headed by Mr.Cristian Gabarrini) will come back to Pramac to coordinate with rookie Francesco Bagnaia.
Ducati’s sporting director is confident that besides the two Italian drivers in the main team, the team will still have two quality replacements from Pramac, Jack Miller and Bagnaia, who are always ready to take on the task. Therefore, Petrucci will have to make a lot of effort when his contract only lasts for 1year, and there is no guarantee for the current position in 2020. But he is still confident he can keep the position and not in a hurry to think about the future.
